The Wild Robot movie review

We hear about the dangers of AI but is it all bad?

What’s it about?

Shipwrecked on a deserted island, a robot named Roz must learn to adapt to its new surroundings. Building relationships with the native animals, Roz soon develops a parental bond with an orphaned gosling.

What did we think?

Anthony Sherratt says: The Wild Robot is probably Dreamwork’s most beautiful aesthetic yet. Simply amazing visually, it tugs at the heart strings and has more than its fair share of genuine laugh-out-loud moments. There’s a beautiful sweetness it its empathy and a cheekiness permeates throughout the film holding you in the story.

Kids are going to love it. Most adults will enjoy it too despite it leaning heavily on tropes.

It’s a shame they didn’t give the dialogue another pass or two to weed out the cliches and they certainly tried to cram far too many themes in, but that doesn’t really matter as it’s incredibly entertaining and heartwarming.

Stephen Scott says: No original ideas were harmed in the making of this movie. Despite this it’s a lovely film that warms the cockles of your hearts and had me guffawing.
