What’d we think?

I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this film. The Miracle Club is the perfect mix of sentimentality, faith, love, and loss all brewed to make a most heart-warming draught of tea. (With just the right amount of Irish Catholicism sprinkled on top for garnish).

It’s hard not to love a movie starring Hollywood royalty Kathy Bates and Maggie Smith. Especially when the director, Thaddeus O’Sullivan, treated us to a glassy-eyed Maggie within the first 2 minutes of the film. Way to pull on the heartstrings!

The writing is full of truth; hard one second and warm the next. With comedy and wit enough to please the Boomers and Millennials alike. There’s enough emotional baggage, tension, and trauma to give this film gravitas, but not enough to leave you heavier after. Watching this film ultimately felt like receiving an overdue hug from your mum after a heated argument.

It’s easy to miss a charming comfort movie when it’s sandwiched between two major blockbusters. But if the pressure of these cozzie livs has got you down, go fetch yourself a hot cup of tea and go watch the Miracle Club. It is precisely what the doctor ordered.
