What’s it about?
Always procrastinating Teddy (Rafe Spall) wakes up the day after his wedding to find his life jumping forward a year at a time at random intervals.
What did we think?
Elizabeth Best says: Well isn’t this a super charming flick! The plot device is clever and although some of the beats feel like they’re verging on the cliché, truthful performances from the leads propel the story forward with an energy and intimacy that will make you want to make the most of your own life after the credits roll.
Strangely enough, though, I feel I really do need to mention the similarities between this film and Just Another Christmas (released December 3, 2020), a Brazilian film on Netflix. Possibly a victim of dueling works phenomenon? The device and plot points were eerily similar, though Long Story Short executes the premise with more heart, comedy and emotional honesty than the other film. 8/10
