Movie review score
4/5

What’s it about?
After being orphaned (it’s a Disney movie after all) a pair of contrasting sisters face a world of isolation before a series of events trap the land in an eternal winter. Can the fearless optimist Anna release the icy grip of Anna (loosely based on The Snow Queen)?

What did we think?
Anthony Sherratt says: Frozen is a delightful return to classic Disney musical animation. It takes the fresh edginess and strong female characters of recent forays (the amazing Tangled and Wreck-Em Ralph) and combines them with the musical nature of The Little Mermaid. The result is a wonderful tale of friendship, family and frivolity. Simply adorable and one for all ages.

On a side note the preceding short ‘Get A Horse’ is simply incredible and an amazing tribute to the then-and-now of Disney.

  1. Utterly disagree. The first 3/4 of the film goes forever, the music is awful (except for the big dance routine which was great), and it just bored me. 2 1/2 stars.

Completely agree with the review of Get A Horse – 5 stars. Disney tops their amazing work on last year’s short (Paperman) by bringing Mickey Mouse into the 21st century. If you thought the 3D in Avatar was good, then this will blow your mind. Hilarious and ingenious.

  2. Dan Beeston says:

The characters had enough to them that I was able to bond and care about their journey. Visually splendid but the songs were not good. Nothing that could compare with ‘Can’t wait to be king’ or anything out of Aladdin. Although the Ana and the prince falling in love duet was pretty cute.

I found it hard to get a grasp on the story until I realised it was all about the relationship between the sisters. But they barely share any scenes. I find that stories about boys are always about realising they had the power in them all along and stories about girls are about love and not fighting with their female relatives. What’s with that?

    I’d give it 3.5 stars.
